The Day the Divorce Was Final, She Booked the Longest Session
150 minutes: for a full stop, and for a beginning.
She sent the text from the courthouse steps. Papers signed, the sky offensively bright, and suddenly nowhere to go — home was too empty, friends would require talking. She scrolled to a number she'd saved weeks earlier and typed: do you have anything today?
The concierge kept her the 150-minute slot. Her eyes were swollen when she arrived; nobody asked anything. The bath water was hot, petals floating on the surface, and she soaked for a long time — until the steam had fogged the mirror completely. Before entering, the therapist knocked softly: ready? She said, yes.
She cried more than once during that session. The therapist asked nothing, only moved a towel closer when she sobbed, and raised the temperature a little. In the core passage she said the strongest feeling was being respected — this body, ignored and criticised for years, was here being treated slowly, ceremoniously, as something that mattered.
Before leaving she wrote a small card and left it in her member file. The concierge passed on its single line: 'From today, I am kind to myself first.'
When she left, dusk was coming down. She said it was the most dignified day she'd had in years.

All you have to say is: “I need to be looked after.”
We will take care of the rest.
